This course is for those who are beginners, or who feel
a need to brush up old skills and want to learn how
to sew with a professional finish. Using an industrial
machine and an overlocker you will learn about various
seams, fastenings and bindings and the use of different
fabrics. By the end of the course you will have made
items for your home, yourself and your family.
This special course is for anyone who wants to learn
about ethnic garment construction.The course covers
the making of traditional Asian or African garments.
It will allow you to make an ethnic style wardrobe to
suit yourself. You will learn both traditional and modern
ways of cutting and making garments that fit.
Learn how to make your own hats to complement your outfit
or to wear for a special occasion, such as a wedding,
a party or fancy dress. Very little experience is needed,
just the ability to sew neatly by hand. Begin by making
fabric hats with basic materials, then progress to making
straw or sinamay model hats, bridal headwear and blocked
peachbloom felt.
This course is at present only offered to our own current
or previous students and is for those who want to learn
the skills for future employment as teaching assistants.
The course structure will enable you to learn how to
help others to learn and how to help the tutor to assist
the students to achieve their full potential. For entry
on to this course students must have a minimum of level
2 OCN standard in their chosen subject.
Smart and contemporary or frilled and pretty bedlinen;
formal white or modern bright prints for co-ordinated
table linen; traditionally piped or softly frilled covers
for cushions; simple loose covers to revitalise an old
chair. If you would like to design a room setting around
your personality, then this course is for you. You will
be given information and advice to help you choose the
right designs to create your desired effect.
