This course is for those who are beginners, or who feel
a need to brush up old skills and want to learn how
to sew with a professional finish. Using an industrial
machine and an overlocker you will learn about various
seams, fastenings and bindings and the use of different
fabrics. By the end of the course you will have made
items for your home, yourself and your family.
Skills to enable you to take your sewing that one step
further to achieve a professional finish to your garments.
You will be able to make clothes to fit yourself, and
learn how to make a skirt, trousers, top and how to
set sleeves, pockets and much more.
For those who would like to learn the skills to make
a pattern that can be used time and time again to make
clothes for yourself that fit as they should. A good
pattern is the basis of all good garment construction.
You will learn how to make your own block patterns and
how to adapt them for a skirt, trousers and tops for
yourself. Further study will involve creating more detailed
designs, for example shirts and jackets.
Smart and contemporary or frilled and pretty bedlinen;
formal white or modern bright prints for co-ordinated
table linen; traditionally piped or softly frilled covers
for cushions; simple loose covers to revitalise an old
chair. If you would like to design a room setting around
your personality, then this course is for you. You will
be given information and advice to help you choose the
right designs to create your desired effect.
We aim to bring out the artist in you with this creative
and experimental course. Explore a number of textile
processes such as paper and felt making, printing and
dyeing, embroidery, knit, weave and ragrug to produce
exciting textiles. Design work will be developed through
simple drawing and ideas will be developed into final
outcomes for clothing and accessories appropriate to
different cultures or interiors and pieces of textile
art. This course will provide a basis for further study
in art and design.
This special course is for anyone who wants to learn
about ethnic garment construction.The course covers
the making of traditional Asian or African garments.
It will allow you to make an ethnic style wardrobe to
suit yourself. You will learn both traditional and modern
ways of cutting and making garments that fit.
